Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has returned to work at the club's training centre after recovering from pneumonia, the English Premier League club said on Thursday.

Howe, 47, was admitted to hospital earlier this month and missed league games against Manchester United, Crystal Palace, and Aston Villa.

"Newcastle United are delighted to confirm that Eddie Howe has returned to his duties at the club's training centre," the club said. Eddie had recently been hospitalised with pneumonia and has now returned to work after a period of recovery.

"We thank supporters for their warm wishes."

Fifth-placed Newcastle beat Manchester United and Crystal Palace convincingly under the stewardship of assistant manager Jason Tindall but lost heavily to Aston Villa, who are their competitors for a Champions League place.

Newcastle host the nearly doomed Ipswich Town this weekend, knowing that a win will boost their hopes of finishing in the league's top five places this season, which will guarantee Champions League football for next season.

Newcastle occupy the fifth and final place to qualify for the Champions League and have 59 points from 33 games played- five to go.

In comparison, Arsenal in second have 67 from 34, Manchester City in third have 61 from 34, Newcastle have 59, Chelsea have 57 from 33 with Villa also on 57 from 34 games played.
